Those scripts are tested on HP-UX and SunOS machines, it work with all oracle versions (I use scripts like these from 8i to 11g)
When storage it is a issue, it's a frequent dba tecnique exporting or importing databases using pipe to compress the dump on the fly and not after.

Unfortunally the same trick does not yet work with datapump (10G) export / import tools.

Finally, To import a compressed exp dump without decompressing:
