When you are accessing a database object in another schema you need to specify the schema name but you can set it as default setting search_path.

server1 ~ $ psql -U mm -h localhost finance
Password for user mmagnani:
psql (9.3.3)
Type "help" for help.

-- relation is under another schema
finance=# select max(amount) from transaction;
ERROR:  relation "transaction" does not exist)

--  need to point to the schema 
finance=# select max(amount) from terminal.transaction;
     max     
-------------
 6107900.000
(1 row)

 --  or just the search_path accordingly  
finance=#  set search_path to terminal;
SET

finance=# select max(amount) from transaction;
     max     
-------------
 6107900.000
(1 row)

You can verify your current search_path with \font class="code"> show search_path

finance=#   show search_path ;
  search_path   
----------------
 "$user",public
(1 row)

finance=# set search_path to terminal;
SET
finance=# show search_path;
 search_path 
-------------
 terminal
(1 row)
