Pro text file: I have found that the files are faster. This is because the server will store much of the data in temporary memory, so when it is called on later, it can quickly retreat the information.
MySQL does not store anything in memory and is slowed down.
MySQL server has its own cache system too.


Pro Mysql: mysql utilises the write capabilities of the operating system it is running on , so the file write is no faster,
and if the server is busy queries may well be queued ,its one of MySQL's downfalls , but you do carry the overhead
of procesing it via mysql - so for real simple stuff like this a text file is faster, but the minute you need to pick
out specific files then MySQL takes over speed wise.
